Introduction
Mercury retrograde has a bad reputation: lost messages, stuck paperwork, the computer crashing right when you need it. But it isn't a punishment. It is a pause that comes three times a year and, used well, helps you review, correct and finish what is pending.
Here are the exact dates for 2027, the shadow periods and how to make the most of each season.

What Mercury retrograde is
Seen from Earth, Mercury seems to stop and move backward in the sky for about three weeks. It is an optical effect, like when you are on a faster train and the other one seems to roll backward.
In astrology, Mercury rules the mind, words, messages, contracts, paperwork and short trips. When it is retrograde, all of that asks for a second look.
What the shadow period is
The pre-shadow begins when Mercury first passes the degree it will later move back to. That is when the themes to review often start showing up.
The post-shadow ends when Mercury passes again the degree where it stopped. Until then, things settle little by little. That is why each season lasts about seven weeks, even though the retrograde itself lasts only three.
The three seasons of 2027
February, Pisces into Aquarius. It begins in Pisces on February 9 and moves back into Aquarius on the 18th. It arrives in the middle of eclipse season, mixing intuition with changes of plan. Good for reviewing dreams, group projects and friendships. Pisces, Aquarius, Virgo and Leo feel it most.
June, Cancer into Gemini. It begins in Cancer on June 10 and moves back into Gemini on the 26th. It asks for patience with family, home and paperwork. Good for pending conversations with your people and for sorting documents. Cancer, Gemini, Capricorn and Sagittarius feel it most.
October, Scorpio into Libra. It begins in Scorpio on October 7 and moves back into Libra on the 16th. It is the season to review agreements, contracts and relationships. Good for saying what was left unsaid and closing cycles. Scorpio, Libra, Taurus and Aries feel it most.
What to avoid and what to do
Better to avoid, if you can choose the date:
- Signing important contracts without reading every line twice.
- Buying electronics or a car.
- Launching a new project or website.
Do make the most of everything that starts with "re":
- Review, reread, rewrite and correct.
- Reconnect with people and resume projects left halfway.
- Back up your files and tidy your inbox.
- Reflect before you reply.
If something can't wait, that's fine: do it more slowly, confirm in writing and leave room for surprises.

In 2027 Mercury is retrograde February 9 to March 3, June 10 to July 4 and October 7 to 28. With the shadow, each season lasts about seven weeks. There is nothing to fear: it is a pause to review, correct and finish.
